864726 2010-03-24 09:13:00 What NIC install file? The only thing I have done is run a Recovery over a clean, formatted C partition....

Doesn't surprise me about Vaio's - this one was a hand-me-down, would never have gone out and bought one. A mate did (against my advice, because it had the "bling") and he is always complaining about it now. I just smile knowingly...

864727 2010-03-24 20:57:00 Well obviously there's something wrong with the NIC or its driver, why it crashes. It shouldnt crash, if you've restored the system. If theres an updated driver, install it Speedy Gonzales (78)
864728 2010-03-24 21:03:00 IRQL errors can be caused by faulty RAM too for example. The drivers get corrupted. I'd be inclined to give Memtest a go. Sweep (90)
864729 2010-03-25 05:11:00 Ran Memtest overnight last night. Got a 553% coverage (!!!) with no errors...

I have checked both the Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection and the Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection devices and tried to update the drivers via Device Manager. They are up-to-date.

Done the same for the HIDs and the IDE Controllers and the IEEE 1394 Bus host controller... They are up-to-date.

864730 2010-03-25 05:16:00 Aha! No it's not! According to the Intel site there's a version 15 - I am running 7.08... johcar (6283)
864731 2010-03-25 05:38:00 Dont always rely on updates in device manager, its not always right Speedy Gonzales (78)
864732 2010-03-25 07:12:00 I've now updated both the network drivers - will see if the stability improves... I'll know soon enough because SWMBO will yell if it crashes again (it's hers)!!! :D johcar (6283)
