864317 2010-03-05 20:48:00 Yes all windows updates have been done. Uninstalled Windows installer but kept avira. Strangely enough pc seems better this morning, many thanks for your help. dianne pierce (13385)

windows Installer could not be found, when you tried to install hijackthis. Unless there's something wrong with that file?? I take it, any other file you download and install, installs OK?

You could try increasing the virtual ram. That gave me a noticeable increase in speed.

864325 2010-03-06 08:47:00 Minimum specs usually mean minimum performance, especially over time. Gunk Accumulates. If your still not happy, try saving your data and start over with a new install, a bit of a pain, but will make a difference, until Gunk Accumulates AGAIN. PPp (9511)
