At least hanging around a police cordon will hopefully deter them from breaking the law. I saw one guy ride past on his push bike without a helmet, he went past a few cop cars too. Wonder if they gave him a warning or a ticket. |

| 771707 | 2009-05-08 23:24:00 | Why would they need the SAS? In the film Out of the Blue, they just chucked in teargas and sprayed the room the guy was in with bullets until he came out, then they finished him. Why not do the same here? I believe if people decide to go against the law, they should feel the force of the law. He had his chance to integrate with society and rejected it. Now we should reject him. I don't think he deserves to get to sit in prison eating taxpayer dollars. Only the SAS, with extensive recent combat experience against al Qaida and Taliban snipers in Afghanistan, would be likely to play any part in the current siege, one analyst told TGIF. The SAS would only be there as back-up, he said, with police STG members expected to take the lead in any confrontation with the gunman. The SAS troops will have been deployed to strategic sniper positions to provide extra cover for police if needed, and to assist with observation of Molenaar from different vantage points. Additionally, SAS troops are trained to oper- ate over extended periods, whereas civilian police will be more likely to require rest breaks and shift changes. The SAS will be surrounding Molenaars house so that he can be targeted from a number of angles if necessary |

| 771708 | 2009-05-08 23:46:00 | On another group I belong to there is a couple of security connected people (one with the cops and another the sergeant in a courthouse) they are saying, we, those who know nothing about this - should be making any "they should haves .." cos we know nothing. From where I sit - someone who knows nothing - this isnt Fiji - our opinions are valid. All this for one man vs half the NZ army - (both Sallys and Regular) over 100 police from varying parts of the country - probably 50+ of our elitest sharp-shooters - not to mention the equipment involved - a smattering of politicians (local and central) What concerns me now is how our police force will be viewed by the rest of the world. |

| 771710 | 2009-05-09 00:23:00 | It would show to the world that we treat crims with equality regardless of crime, we dont go in bang bang bang like yanks do... we might be seen as soft....but at least we beleive in justice... i hate how there are different stories eg: source saying hes dead but when a official release is "police didnt shoot him" hes either dead or alive....no in between... |
