772310 2009-05-08 21:58:00 Went and saw the movie Star Trek yesterday. Nothing really to write home about. The reason for posting this thread is to compare the quality of the movie to playing a DVD on my 40" Sony Bravia LCD TV. BTW this is the first time I have been to the movies in about 10 years or more, cannot even remember the last one I went to. When the movie started I thought yuk where has all the crispness and vibrant colour gone. Watching a DVD when they zoom up to a persons face you can see all the hair follicles, blackheads etc. I have my DVD player connected to my TV by component video cables. Probably the only thing that was better at the movies was the sound in Dolby surround which I don't have. Also when there was an explosion or low end thump it rattled the seats and your body.

772313 2009-05-09 01:13:00 I don't think anything can beat the sound at the cinemas. Picture quality sure may be better at home, but then you gotta weigh up size vs quality. For the whole experience, imo, the only way to go is at the cinemas. --Wolf-- (128)
772314 2009-05-09 01:22:00 My audio crushes anything I have experienced at the movies.

Not that I go to the moves very often, My purpose built home theatre is a much better experience. Popcorn is also much cheaper, the beer is cold and I can pause the entire she-bang to take a leak.

..and you don't end up with an empty wallet, watching a movie in the comfort of your own home! (Except for the initial setup of course!)

I'm with Metla.....

You can also:
Sit where you like
Not have to listen to other peoples talking and munching noises
Watch as many times as you like
Not have a crap viewing position

Not that I have such a setup but my lounge floor does almost as well as Metlas cool arrangement
