771572 2009-05-06 22:18:00 I have been handed a video tape recorded in the Hi8 format (last century?) with the hope that I may be able to retrieve the wedding recorded therein. I did have a Hi8 camera in the 90s but, alas, no longer.

Although I am not certain, I suspect - because it is printed on the cassette - that it is recorded NTSC which, of course, makes things a bit more difficult.

Ideally, what I would like to do is use a camera (or player) with which I can transfer the tape to either my PC, a DVD or a Mini DV tape which my camera uses. From there I can edit the tape and burn it to a DVD.

Hopefully there is someone out there who may be able to copy the tape to something that I will be able to handle. No charge would be nice. Free, gratis and for nothing is even better.;)

Unfortunately the camera used to record it has returned to Sydney and so is unavailable.

It would be great if someone could help and a big advantage, but not necessary, if that someone lived in Auckland.

:thanks

771574 2009-05-14 10:18:00 Thanks so much, Bantu. It worked a treat.

I went to Bantu's abode with my trusty laptop and copied the tape to the HD. The tape was an hour long and so we were able to have a chat, a coffee and a raspberry slice. We spent a very enjoyable Tuesday morning. It's surprising the things you talk about when waiting for a tape to copy.

After a small amount of editing the video has now been burnt to a DVD.

I have asked, on F1, for some help in the past - usually with a successful outcome - but I did not really hold out much hope for copying an Hi8 tape. Thankfully there was a reply and the end result was just what was wanted. Keep faith in the power of F1.

Thanks, Bantu. Most appreciated.:thanks
