773947 2009-05-15 00:14:00 I have just set myself up with Freeview HD. I also have Sky and must say the picture quality of the TVNZ channels through Freeview are far superior than through Sky.
:)

773948 2009-05-15 00:33:00 In order to get your freview the same quality as sky I would suggest satalite dish miss-alignment, or maybe use a damaged cable.

HTH :P

Freeview HD is via UHF aerial. And I think you misread my post. I was saying Freeview HD picture quality is far superior than Sky.

Yes they had a segment of Closeup on TVNZ7 last night and Paul Henry looked absolutely old and wrinkly.

773953 2009-05-15 01:44:00 wait till you start watching actual HD programs (I dont know of any tvnz programs produced in NZ which are in HD).

I was watching 2 characters talking over lunch and the guy had a crumb on the edge of his lip that remained there the entire scene after taking a bite from a sandwhich :p And that was just 720, wait till 1080 :D

773954 2009-05-15 02:03:00 Cant say anything about Sky, havent got it / wouldnt bother, getting it.

But yup watching freeview, using this USB tuner is clear as. Even with this mini aerial. Saves me connecting it to the outside aerial. I'm glad it still works in 64 bit windows. Even tho there may not be any NZ programs in HD, I think there are still some programs that broadcast in HD (on 3 I think)

I wouldnt bother getting a box for a TV (too expensive). I was going to get a satellite box (what $199+maybe $90 for the dish), it would have cost too much, compared to a USB tuner ($99). Which does exactly the same thing.

TV2 and TV3 broadcast a number of (mainly imported) shows in HD. The quality is amazing.

773956 2009-05-15 05:10:00 At the moment, sky don't broadcast TV1/2 in HD, but sky and TVNZ have reached an agreement and TVNZ channels will be in HD sometime soon.

But yeah, sky really do cram in the channels, and simply turn down the bitrate as they please. It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't charge you through the nose for the pixelated crap that they call a service.
