865024 2010-03-08 15:36:00 Hi all, I've been involved in a long, drawn out project creating an excel sheet designed for use by my colleagues, but have hit a stumbling block in that the finished sheet cannot be emailed as an attachment to its intended destination - it gets knocked back by a mimesweeper email saying its encrypted:

'The message titled xxxx sent from xxx@xxx.uk to xxx@xxx.uk
was found to contain an encrypted attachment. This message has not been delivered.'

I have successfully emailed it to other work colleagues, its just when we try to send the finished thing to one particular place it is stopped. The sheet did have macros and password protection at one point but I have deleted all Macros, Passwords and attempts at VBA from the sheet and I still can't send it. I've tried messing about with file permissions too in the unlikely event that was it, but to no avail. Any advice would be much appreciated.

865025 2010-03-08 17:41:00 zip or rar the file then rename .zip or .rar to .old, email, tell the people at the other end to reverse what you have done. zqwerty (97)
865026 2010-03-10 10:45:00 Thanks zqwerty thats really clever, unfortunately I'm very restricted on the work computers & so file extensions are hidden & I can't change them. I could probably work out how to do it eventually but then would never be able to get them to change it back to a rar when the file is received at the other end - I'm not exactly working with the most technical minds here, even unzipping a rar file is beyond most of them! If it's the email system on their end that is doing it then perhaps you could send it to another email address? Or email it to yourself at home and then repackage it there, as zqwerty instructed?

As far as removing all of the macros or encryption signatures from an xls goes, I don't know of any tool that gives you a 100% clean option. My best suggestion would be to make a new workbook and copy or reinput as much of the original sheet as you can - that way you should retain the information but not any of the traces that the minesweeper is blocking ;)
