865014 2010-03-08 12:17:00 Hi guys,

I have 2 .mov files recorded on my camera which I would like to join together and compress so I can upload as a single video to youtube (current file sizes are 110 MB and 350 MB for a 1 min and 3 min video).

I know I've compressed videos in the past but can't remember what program I used. I think Windows Movie Maker would do fine to join them but won't accept the video files in their current file type.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated :)

Thanks.

865015 2010-03-08 13:17:00 If you are running VLC (Or if you download VLC Portable)
You can do a quick and dirty convert to WMV or AVI then use WMM to join and resave the video.

865016 2010-03-08 17:44:00 any video converter is free and does what it says. I used to use handbrake but the newest version is crap gary67 (56)

865018 2010-03-08 21:55:00 megui. Not exactly straightforward to use, but I use it for h.264 conversions. It compresses my videos from my digital camera (avi files in motion jpeg) to about 14% of the filesize with no drop in quality (mkv files using h.264).

Smaller file sizes mean better for archiving (but you wont want to edit them after, as h.264 isn't made for subsequent editing, it is made for final versions), and less time uploading onto youtube :)

Winner. Thanks man :D

VLC kinda worked too, but Windows Movie Maker couldn't handle the widescreen very well.
