During all the swine flu stuff did you see the way that Mexican and Egyptian pigs were kept?? Makes the NZ pigs look like they're in the Hilton.

Actually the cages looked very similar to the NZ ones. You can't get much smaller. I have been to a pig farm before, one where they were inside, but in pens, and the smell is something out of this world. I assume it is worse in those caged farms. I love how when the swine flu first broke out, you had the head of the NZ Pork board very quickly coming out to say that pork products were unaffected, but on this they have been silent to date. It is all about money and greed. All I can say is Animal Farm, and I hope this pigs get their own back on these farmers.

Lucky buggers.

774709 2009-05-18 08:18:00 Veal used to be farmed the same way and veal crates were banned a long time ago, not sure if it was ever available here but we had it in Europe a lot because it was cheaper than other meats. Cost was a very important factor in my early years gary67 (56)

774711 2009-05-18 09:33:00 I wonder how the farmers would feel if we caged them up for a month or so? convair (13650)

774713 2009-05-18 11:10:00 Can anyone suggest a good brand of bacon that is basically free-range? I for sure will pay extra if the porkies are raised happily. Greg (193)
