Leo Gao and his girlfriend, who ran a Rotorua service station, are understood to have applied to Westpac Bank for a $10,000 overdraft and mistakenly had $10 million paid into their account.

One News sources tonight suggested the couple may have headed towards Korea or China with up to $6m.

If it were a few hundred, may take some time to catch up, but $10 Million ???

775654 2009-05-21 08:09:00 10 million wouldn't be worth not being able to set foot in NZ again Greven (91)
775655 2009-05-21 08:11:00 Well I probably wouldnt get out of the country, since I havent renewed my passport for the last 20 yrs  So, even if I tried, I wouldnt get past the frontdesk. Unless I dug a hole somewhere that noone could find, I wouldnt bother Speedy Gonzales (78)
775656 2009-05-21 08:12:00 Look at all the 0s and savour it for a moment, then tell the bank!

I wonder if the bank could give a small reward, like what may happen if you just found it somewhere? Can't see them doing that though! Nah, just give it back, it aint yours to keep!

I recon you could get 30 to 40 grand out of them.

775658 2009-05-21 08:18:00 I asked mum and she said she'd print a bank statement, frame it, then tell the bank :). davidmmac (4619)
775659 2009-05-21 08:28:00 There was actually a ring in on the radio this afternoon about this - and several people rang in saying this happens all the time, smaller amounts.

One person rang the bank - they let her keep the Interest that had accumulated when they took the $$ back, other said the whole shooting match had to be paid back, interest and all.

I liked it when our mortgage got changed 6 years ago - for a few minutes according to the Bank our mortgage was paid off :banana - I said thanks very much- see ya!!!! - didn't last long though:crying

775660 2009-05-21 08:34:00 My thoughts on this are that if the bank had accidentally taken $10m from me (which incidentally I don't have), I would expect it to be given back to me. Therefore, if they accidentally gave me $10m, I would give it back to them. somebody (208)
775661 2009-05-21 08:36:00 Ya wouldn't see me for dust and small stones. :banana

Playing hide and seek with their money, what a nice change. :clap
