Thomas Edison invented the Light Bulb.
Joseph Lucas invented the Short Circuit.

.....many other wondrous things were invented by Joseph Lucas, including this air bearing false twisting spindle (www.box.net).

For those not ofay with the synthetic textile industry, a false twisting spindle is used to put a to and fro twist into heated nylon yarn, so that when it is made up into a garment it has better feel to it.

Those who were around when nylon shirts were first made without false twisted yarn will remember how clammy and 'plasticky' they felt.

This particular version from my junk box, was production version 1 from around 1959, and used to run at 180,000 rpm.
The later version having a much lighter spindle ran happily at 250,000 rpm.

Many thousands of these were made, but alas, more advanced bearing technology made the air bearing obsolete...............

(Not a laughing matter.)

 That you may well think, but that little thing is like the Tardis, non-descript on the outside but wonderous precision air bearing technology on the inside.
After 50 years, it will still spin on a hydrodynamic air film if given a flick.
