| 866849 | 2010-03-13 09:05:00 | i recently got a new western digital 500gb hdd i installed it but when i access 'my computer' its not there, but when i go on device manager my pc recognizes it, tried reinstalling didn't work so i put it in my 2nd pc which already has a 500 gb western digital hdd nut that too showed on device manager but didn't show it on my computer, on both pcs device manager said it was working i assume its a driver problem but i got no idea what to do any help hdd model is- western digital 500gb, model number- WDC WD5000AAKS-00V1A0 both pcs use win xp 32-bit |

| 866850 | 2010-03-13 09:30:00 | If its new, and there's nothing on it, (as in completely empty), you need to go right mouse on my computer on the desktop / manage. Select disk management. Highlight the hard drive / right mouse / format. Or partition it, if you want to partition it. Then it'll appear in my computer | Speedy Gonzales (78) | ||
| 866851 | 2010-03-13 22:51:00 | Before formatting it, you may have to do as SG said, but select "Initialize" first and then do the format. That's what I've had to do the last couple of HDs I've put in. The WD web site has information (and software if you want to clone your new disc). |
