2009-05-24 00:12:00 | Does anyone have a handle on where to get these in NZ? (Yes, these are the ones branded as "Music" ones that are required for use in a stand-alone audio CD Recorder ...) | davehartley (3487) | |
2009-05-24 00:32:00 | Just use a normal CDR. They do the same thing. Theyre not required, it DOESN'T matter what CDR you use | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2009-05-24 01:28:00 | Unfortunately, for a stand-alone CD Recorder (one that hooks up to your HiFi system), that's not the case. They need the "Audio" flavour (for copyright reasons, evidently). I have some Audio CD-Rs that work perfectly, but (for obvious reasons) would like the CD-RWs so I can wipe and use them again. I just can't seem to find any anywhere online in NZ! Amazon have them, but won't ship them overseas :angry

2009-05-24 01:30:00 | What???? Surely it is the format that you record the music tracks in that makes the difference. I think someone is leading you astray......................

2009-05-24 01:34:00 | Is this cd recorder the only thing youre going to play these CDRW's on? Because I doubt anything will play them. if you keep on formatting (which you dont usually do yourself). And youre right Zippity, I doubt you HAVE to use CDRW's, to record with. Whoever told you that is talking crap. If that were the case, you would have to do the same thing with cd burners on a computer (which isnt the case)

Nope, it's all above-board -- I can confirm that "normal" CD-Rs and CD-RWs do not work in my Pioneer PDR-609 :) From what I've read, there's a "tariff" put on these discs because they can be used to record basically anything from any source -- so music companies have required that CD Recorders are only able to record on these "Audio" discs, which are no different to normal CD-Rs/RWs apart from a flag that marks them as "Audio". Go figure. Is this cd recorder the only thing youre going to play these CDRW's on? Because I doubt anything will play them. if you keep on formatting (which you dont usually do yourself) My head unit in my car plays CD-RWs :) The machine makes a properly-formatted audio disc, so it'll play in anything that can read RWs. Again, I have Audio CD-Rs, but would quite like to have a few CD-RWs that I can rotate. (I know that this kind of thing is "old school", but would still like to use it -- it's a very nice unit!) |

2009-05-24 05:00:00 | Please read the thread properly... He's NOT using a CD-RW Drive in a PC for writing, he said that in the first post... He's using one of these: www.trademe.co.nz Back on topic - sorry I don't know where you'd get the CD-RWs either... I've seen the audio CD-Rs floating around sometimes but not CD-RWs Have you tried asking around at audio/hi-fi/music shops etc?

2009-05-24 06:09:00 | Try ebay - they are bound to have them. If sellers, like Amazon, cannot ship overseas, then consider shipbuktu (www.shipbuktu.com/). Thanks for that -- I might give them a go :) Any idea of postage costs? Also thanks Agent_24 -- I never even thought of HiFi stores  I might try a couple tomorrow!
