775303 2009-05-23 07:21:00 Most of the WOF failures in NZ are just nit picking! (A spot of rust within 150mm of a hinge etc.)

Australia doesn’t have any WOF’s unless you’re selling a vehicle and has 20% less road fatalities on a population basis.

Makes you wonder doesn't it?

We were asked to do a load of repairs. Then we took to a mechanic. Repairs maybe in the thousands. Repair rust around the boot, headlights and other stuff ...

775304 2009-05-23 07:22:00 so when have parking wardens been able to issue police tickets ??
unless of course your council has a rule that you cannot park a non-WOF vehicle in a public space.

i would say your lucky the police didn't see it. you can drive to place of repair with expired WOF but thats all, you can't drive it to work.

Yeah the rego .. if it is expired parking wardens can issue ticket. We have in the past been dealt to when someone forgot to put the new sticker on the window but we wrote a letter and they waived it :D

I think we had a time with a expired wof as well ..

775305 2009-05-23 07:25:00 VTNZ are not dodgy they have no reason to be, they just carry out an inspection with no eye to any possible repairs, anyone who says otherwise is a numbnuts.
Its the the private garages which can be dodgy they can fail vehicles knowing they may be asked to carry out repairs.

yeah right !

getting paid for passing vehicles (especially with no other income) sums it up.
at the end of the day the inspection is only as good as the person doing it.
VTNZ are just another chain store.

private guys do tend to be harder, the cost of getting things wrong can be a lot higher to owner operators than just a worker in a chain store. eg your not going to see VTNZ go under because of a dodgy inspector.

personally i very rarely get things repaired by the WOF guys. i like that they are fussy, gives me a chance to fix things before they are a major problem.

what can make it hard is the "rule book" for WOF is very open to interpretation. i had a look one day and it ridiculously vague. so its VERY easy to get it past by one guy and failed by another.

775307 2009-05-23 11:02:00 I guess you won't have insurance either then as without those others insurance is void even if you pay for it. Hope you don't hit some poor innocent while out driving then :(

yep no insurance, ive only just got it going again so havent had the money for such unneccesary things :p

Then I hope you have no money for petrol either. Driving uninsured is just plain stupid.

Call it what you will, my point stands. It's a stupid risk to take.

That's not risk taking where I'm going today is risk taking, I'm off caving for the day as pointed out driving without insurance is plain stupidity or blindly optimistic in your own ability. If you can't afford the insurance WOF & rego then you can't actually afford the car despite what you think
