Go to the LTSA website (or whatever they're called now) & find the phone number for wof complaints

775274 2009-05-20 06:55:00 Firstly, why would you take it to VTNZ?

And chances are your brake light has a faulty/loose connection where it'll sometimes work and sometimes won't. I somehow doubt they just failed it when it clearly worked.

The Inspectors make sure everything your vehicle is equipped with actually works as expected. If the high brake light was not there then it would not have been tested dim or not. It may have been an eyesight issue with the Inspector or reflected sunlight which made the light appear dim or dirt over the lense for that matter. My vehicle does not have fog lights therefore can't fail the test for example unless it should have fog lights and does not.

I take my car to VTNZ for a COF as they do not expect to make money for repairs. I can take it where I like for a repair if needed.

775277 2009-05-20 13:08:00 I was failed on a minor point and when I had it repaired the mechanic advised me NOT to go to a testing station. "Take your car to a garage," he said.
The local VTNZ failed a woman's car because the windscreen washer was out of water. How pathetic when it would have only taken a minute to top up. They will never get my business because of that.

Why did not the woman leave the VTNZ with failed Cert and top it up with a bottle of water or even be really undignified and pass water into the correct container? Be sad if she took off the oil lid and passed the bladder content there.

My point remains. All the equipment has to work.

You take the vehicle to whoever. It passes or fails as the case may be.
I have never had a VTNZ inspection where they have tried to repair any issue or recommended any other place for repair.

I have never had a problem as last time I took my car in I replaced two tyres as they were getting a little toward under the tread to pass. They would have passed but I didn't take the chance.

Somehow I am getting the idea that some people will take the vehicle anywhere to get a sticker.

So driving down a road I should have the right to assume that the vehicle that has a one day old COF is safe. This assuming that the vehicle had a head on collision was proved to have faulty kingpins later.

I will agree that some people will nitpick.

I would also say that most "accidents" are avoidable.

In the event you drive a vehicle at night without fluid in the window washers it can result in serious lack of vision due to moths and other bugs which go splat on the wind screen. It can happen at day time also with bees or butterflies.

Have you ever seen a person parked on the side of the road cleaning a wind screen?

775279 2009-05-20 19:49:00 I use one of the VTNZ stations here but not the other one as at the one I go to they will let me fix things that would fail if I am able while they do the rest of the inspection. They let me fix a light in my trailer last time I was there gary67 (56)
775280 2009-05-20 23:02:00 Hi Lyn

Welcome to F1 :)

Lyn I suggest you start a new thread with your query as it is unlikely to be seen at the end of this thread which is on an unrelated subject

775281 2009-05-20 23:45:00 It is a fundamental principle of Quality Control to get another person or independent body to inspect work or product, though there has been much verbiage in recent years to try to justify self checking (for cost saving, as part of the brave new lean mean world)

I have always found the local VTNZ to be excellent, they also have testing equipment that the average garage does not.
