775914 2009-05-22 12:57:00 A couple of bad dudes are sitting around contemplating doing something naughty, one says to the other “what’s the worst thing the cops can do, shoot us, hmm I don’t know whether I want to get shot”. His mate says “no man they will probably only taser us, come on lets go”. Rob99 (151)

If they're that thick, they deserve what they get. As I'm sure you already know, tasers hurt!

Most crims are thick.

775917 2009-05-22 14:46:00 I think it makes sense to arm the police before circumstances force it upon us.

Tasers are too little too late. I think it's time we seriously consider arming every on-duty officer with a sidearm - or at least begin to look into the matter.

It would mean serious criminals would raise their game too - but they already have. If our police lag behind then they are not serving their purpose as well as they could.

775918 2009-05-24 05:39:00 So what's your stance on the whole taser thing?

The Human Rights Commission I think should ****. They will oppose police having guns, and when they get a little electric power they complain like little girls. So what are the police supposed to use to defend themselves and members of the public from a nonsensical dangerous guy?
It is fine if they use them to defend themselves but there have been numerous cases overseas where that hasn't been the case.

There will always be negatives to this kind of issue. But IMO the positives far outweighs the negatives.

I thought that with a properly adjusted taser, the positives and negatives would wind up pretty much equalised at the miscreant. If there is any outweighing, it must meant the criminals are unbalanced. Such cases could possibly warrant the unbalanced offender getting a couple of watts credited to his power account.
It must be remembered the police are not using the taser to punish people, it is merely a means of charging them ;)
