775825 2009-05-22 07:44:00 oh excuses, excuses:-)

There are probably enough people on PressF1 that would put you up for a day or two each and keep your accommodation costs down if you make it known you were coming. I for one would plus show you around out local area.

775827 2009-05-23 10:58:00 There's plenty of trout in Lake Rotorua, mainly lazy brown trout alongside the preferable (for eating) rainbow trout. For fishing spots though, there's better opportunities not too far from town. Lake Tarawera is probably the most reliable for quality rainbows (Mt Tarawera hasn't erupted since 1886 & isn't likely to ever again.) The Ohau Channel which runs from Lake Rotorua to Lake Rotoiti is another prime spot. Or go upstream on the Ngongotaha river from Lake Rotorua - it's hard to miss catching a decent fish there.

The Rotorua council has done substantial work improving the water quality in Lake Rotorua over the last 20 years. Mainly due to fertilizer run-off from surrounding farms, it used to be a weed-choked cesspit. Now, it's as good as anywhere. I'd still prefer to fish Tarawera though, that's never been a cesspit.

775832 2009-05-24 03:22:00 The white area of the lake is caused by thermal activity at the south end of the lake. It is quite shallow there and the thermal waters flowing into the lake discolor it. Its a favorite place for the wild birds due to the warm water. rodnbel (14097)
775833 2009-05-24 03:52:00 TY - interesting.

We have the same kinda thing, but it's from the nuclear generating plants near San Onofre, CA.

You don't have to use bait or hooks to fish there. Just wait till dark and throw rocks at the glowing objects in the water.
