| 775128 | 2009-05-20 09:16:00 | Hmm my IP3000 refused to work on W7 64bit even with the Vista 64 bit drivers but works fine on W7 32 bit as does my print server so unless Canon can gurantee my printer will work on W7 64 bit I won't be buying that version Fine by me. You don't have to upgrade anyway. Bear in mind I am using Win7 64 and 32 and this is RC1. I don't yet have an RTM version. Stay with what you have if it works for you. |

Just because RAM is cheap nowadays and there's 64-bit operating systems that's no excuse to keep designing bloated software to chew it up. Microsoft learned the hard way doing that with Vista. You'll only need 8GBs of RAM in 2009 if you're playing poorly coded computer games, doing some heavy rendering in PhotoshopCS/Maya/3DS Max, video/audio editing/encoding, AutoCAD etc. |

I certainly did not say that you need 8 Gigs of RAM. The fact remains that at the moment a 64 bit O/S seems to be the way to go due to the fact a 32 bit O/S has a limitation as to the amount of ram YOU CAN INSTALL AND IS SEEN by the O/S. I dropped Adobe Reader because it is bloated software and currently using Foxit reader. I run Office 2007 which may also be bloated software but will allow me to produce *.pdf files which I can pass on to anyone that has a PDF reader of any kind. This is pretty much a universal format. I also use Corel X2 for altering Photos but if I sent you 0001.PSP would you be able to open the image? Personally I do not mind what people use in the way of operating systems or what applications they may run under them. Go get yourself a Win7 version and try it or not as the case my be. Try running FlightSim under Linux or Mac o/s. Yep can be done using Virtual VMs or whatever. The average person uses Windows and the important applications that they use on a day to day basis. I am going back to School in a couple of weeks to do a Diploma. No Linux Computers there and no Macs either. Looks to me that some people may want the best of several worlds. Or not. Have a look at what you posted here:- pressf1.co.nz |

| 775131 | 2009-05-21 08:19:00 | I've got 64bit W7 dual booting with 32bit Vista, and W7 certainly seems crisper and faster, and boots up in about 1 minute as opposed to over 2 with Vista. I've only discovered two issues: AVG on W7 seems to not play nice with Windows Home Server. WHS kept telling me I have no antivirus on W7. I installed Avast and that problem went away. I can't get my old Microtek E6 scanner to go, because Adaptec has no 64 bit drivers for the card I am using. I've tried installing 32-bit Vista under W7 with VMware, but I still can't get the drivers to work. It looks like I might have to finally duimp Old Faithful, and get a USB scanner instead - but not yet. Apart from those two minor issues, I am really liking W7. |
