866382 2010-03-12 20:19:00 Faulty HDD's if failing, = corruption =faults showing on the screen. I actually have another PC here right now with bad drives giving weird displays. The graphics have been tested on other PC's and they are fine.
Any component can give off strange effects.

Example: yesterday a PC suddenly shuts down while using, no blue screen nothing just wham - shutdown and reboots, runs ok for anything from 5 minutes to several hours, then starts all over again -- What do you think the problem was ????

866384 2010-03-12 23:48:00 Thats cool  Sometimes the strangest things happen, some times its trial and error, other times its more obvious.

To answer the question I put about the shutdown -- First thought it may be PSU (changed that) or Board = NOPE.

In the end it was actually the Optical Drive, possibly causing a short circuit -- if you felt the DVD drive right after it shut down right where the power plugs in it was bloody HOT - then when running normally it was fine.

Only found that out when I grabbed the PC and a finger touched that part of the drive - WTF - - Changed the Drive and hasn't shut down since. -- Weird fault eh! ;)

Wasn't a Samsung was it? Probably the short circuit was tripping the PSU over-current protection...

866387 2010-03-13 20:15:00 just wondering, my friend had issues with his Samsung DVD drive after a motherboard upgrade.

It was only after we swapped the drive we noticed it didn't smell right.

On closer inspection there was a large burnt blob of what probably used to be a component on the pickup board
