867426 2010-03-15 19:38:00 Hi Guys.

I have assembled several PC's over the years and got them all going - more by luck than anything.

I was just wondering if when you connect the 4 system panel connector plugs to the motherboard eg the Power Switch, Power LED, Reset and HDD led if it matters which way round you put them onto the the pins.

There never seems to be any markings etc. Does it matter? I assume that for the LED ones it does not matter.

Any suggestions ?

867427 2010-03-15 19:43:00 It doesnt matter with power or reset. It does with the power and hdd LED. If its not the right way round, it wont light up. Just turn it around. You'll see in the manual for some mobos (well these ones anyway), there's a + and - on the headers on the mobo. On this the green / red wires go on the + Speedy Gonzales (78)
867428 2010-03-15 20:01:00 Most motherboards will have some sort of markings. Some have the + or - on the board, others will have Like this here (www.data.sg) Look at the Red IDE, notice the + on the left hand pin. wainuitech (129)

867431 2010-03-15 20:25:00 You have a 50/50 chance of getting it right.

The chance increases if you read the manual and know what you are doing.

No, they are buttons. They are not polarized and will work no matter which way the current is flowing...

Yeah all they do is short the pins out - a screwdriver does the same job. ;)

These days they are generally pretty well marked, and normally face outwards or downwards.

867435 2010-03-15 23:32:00 I'm still not sure about the original question to be honest.

Is it markings on the motherboard which can be referred to in the motherboard manual or marking on the connectors?
