777333 2009-05-27 07:15:00 I know this has been asked before, but whats your normal set up for firewall, AV and AS?
The reason I ask is some programmes seem to crapify themselves when upgraded to a newer version.

At the moment I have Avast, Comodo and Spybot.

I dont like the new comodo, just pain in the ass if anything.

777335 2009-05-27 07:31:00 I'm using the router's firewall and XP x64's firewall. And Avast.Dont use an AS. Used to use malwarebytes, but it stuffs up (when you update in 64 bit). Altho, I see malwarebytes (1.37) now supports x64 (for the protection module).

Not that I'm planning on buying it tho (you have to register it to get the protection module). BUT, I may try malwarebytes again, and see if it'll update without crashing. Cant use trojan remover on this either, its not 64 bit compatible.

777336 2009-05-27 07:54:00 Kaspersky Internet Security for pretty much everything. --Wolf-- (128)
777337 2009-05-28 01:22:00 TBH I've never really used a firewall, Used Eset Smart Security for a while, I liked that but never really had a need for it.

I use NOD32, and have Malwarebytes and Spybot installed (without tea timer) :yuck: and ccleaner.

Never had any infections of any sort, and mbytes and s&d tidy up anything that might have slipped through when I run them once a month or so. More often than not theres nothing there.

How people get malware is beyond me, they must either download every file on limewire or browse porn in IE 24/7. :p

For people who aren't PC savvy, they get a lot more software recommended.

777338 2009-05-28 01:31:00 Get rid of Avast and stick on AVG use XPs firewall, spybot fine.
If you are visiting a lot of porn sites and crack sites might need more protection.

777340 2009-05-28 03:29:00 Nod32, Malwarebytes, Spybot and then I run 2 more cleaning programs once a week (I forgot the frickin names, OK - blame old age). No real problems, but I am starting to feel nervous - both the fruit of my loins are visiting this weekend, and last time I ended with no bandwith and some virii. B*gger. But I love them in any case.

Ditto.
I also have Spyware Terminator, and Superantispyware.
Thats mainly for testing purposes.

And my main AS is Counterspy which is not free.

I have tried ZOne Alarm, Comodo and Online Armor. All of them have their own issues. I've gone back to ZA as its the least annoying for now. 64bit is another matter............and I'll wait for the official WIn7 release before checking them all out again.

I don't get malware either - a certain amount is using common sense but, I wouldn't be without protection on a Windows system. thats asking for it.
