I decided to try to keep using my existing printer rather than replace it when problems started (a damaged print head). So I replace the print head, and from day one installed a Melco CSS system. I'm now 1/3rd of the way through the balck and cyan tanks - thanks to endless problems! All the colours are repeatedly blocking the inkjets. I've purged so much ink in cleaning, and spilt so much when removing the heads for a soak to clear the blockages. If I'm lucky I can start a print run without issues, but I can't do more than 6 pages (with text, not images) before issues appear. Much of the time I'm running on 3 out of 4 coulours totally blocked. In short, it's total excrement! |

I suspect this is indeed a case of trading on association. www.coys.co.nz Yes I thought it was the same company too, and was one reason I thought this looked like an interesting product. Now I will steer clear. It sounds like you may have some assocation to BDT to draw this to our attention. |

| 778405 | 2009-12-17 00:20:00 | I'm usually an observer of forums so i hardly ever write in but i did do a search for melco out of curiosity (to order more ink) and this forum came up and with it some not so nice comments about the Melco product. I'm not associated with melco in any way apart from being a happy customer so i'll put that up front but i have been using their CISS system for over a year now and i have to say that it has been a very very worthwhile purchase saving i expect thousands of dollars in priniting ink costs. I run a small business and it has been a real god send sending my prinitng costs down to almost zero. Admittedly when i refill the ink reservoirs the printer needs to be "cleaned" to prime the reservoirs and on a couple of occasions i have had to dismantle the printing heads and clean the heads in water/solvent but these occasions have been very rare (about twice in the last year). I sometimes need to inject air into the reservoirs to force the ink into the print tanks and this can get messy if you're not careful but you get used to it. You also need to reset the printer configuration settings and re-chip the ink tanks on first install at least for my printers. Just as a comparison i can easily print through 3500 + text based pages on a 100 ml black ink tank. On full colour pages i have estimated my ink costs as less than 1c per page and substantially less for normal text pages. I have never had problems dealing with melco or their competitor www.printerfillingstation.co.nz although the couriers here in NZ suck ass and don't deliver or get lost so buy in bulk. The quality of the print is flawless (when the printer is working well) and after probably 50,000+ prints the printer is working as well as when i bought it all using melco ciss ink. I am using 2 canon pixma 4500 and can't extol the quality of this printer enough i am so happy with it. I've usually been buying the inks form the warehouse but their crap inventory system usually never has enough in stock (in Christchurch at any rate), If they do have ink it's for brother and not Canon, i suspect there is little if any difference and i have used the Brother Inks with no problems at all on my canon printers (as well as HP inks too) or even print quality differences that i could tell. My printing is mostly for internal and non colour important client work. i.e general business. I would never go back to original canon inks or the catridge world knock offs when the alternative is 10 times cheaper. So it's not a flawless system but for the few headaches and spilt ink that you will have the benefits far far outweigh the minor problems the system has. Cheers, Mark Twitter: @BrandDynamics |
