778256 2009-06-04 11:03:00 I'm going to get a heat pump. I've been fixating about them all week after reading this thread. I even got myself a digital thermometer to record the interior house temperature to justify why I need a heat pump. :D

Just need to do some research on what brands are better than others and get some quotes done.

You may want to check a new Fujitsu, now advertised on TV, that has self-cleaning filters. It is not a major concern, however. We have a Fujitsu, floor mounted, and so far it is perfect. I have seen several other brands in the homes of friends and in shops and nowadays I think they are all fairly similar in price, features, and noise ratings.

I would highly recommend that you get your heat pump installed by a refrigeration/heating specialist (see Yellow Pages) as these are the experts. I know of several installations that were done improperly by installers from 'big name' shops.

BTW, with reference to Sam I Am's comments: Our Fujitsu is very quiet and will work to minus 15 degrees outside temperature. It was minus 2 degrees this morning (at ground level) and the heat pump worked just fine.

We discovered after a couple of months, when reading the notes that we are supposed to clean our filters every fortnight. When we followed the procedure there was nothing to clean yet. However will keep an eye on them. It's a very simple procedure with our Mitsubishi.

Clean them about once a year. Those instructions in the manuals are for people who have theres going for 24/7.

778262 2009-06-04 21:57:00 They do take longer to get going on cold mornings like this morning. At a guess I would think we had a 2 or 3 degree frost here and the HP took nearly 5 mins to start pumping out warm air after switching on. Say if the outside air temp is about 12c it well start pumping out hot air almost strait away. Just for those who don't realize heat pumps work by extracting warm air out of the outside air so the colder it is the harder it is to extract warm air and it is the reverse for when it is used for cooling extracting cool air out of warm air.
BTW heat pumps don't suck air in from outsde as some people think. Check this out en.wikipedia.org

778263 2009-06-04 22:23:00 The weird thing is most people dont read the manuals that come with the pumps. It explains everything. rob_on_guitar (4196)
778264 2009-06-05 01:48:00 Where does it say "Read the Manual"?

(That would be as weird an act as believing Telecom.)
