Two posts and a glowing recommendation for dodgy ink? Methinks we have a Melco employee here.

I have never had success with any alternative ink supplier. I've had Canon inkjets since the BJC600 (first one cost me $1750 back in the early 90's, I can buy three colour lasers printers for that now) and sticking with OEM ink has been the only thing that worked. I always used top quality inkjet paper too, but it was no help with crap ink.

Cheers

778397 2009-08-25 05:40:00 "The “Genuine” MELCO Technologies CISS system has been designed, engineered and enhanced to meet the specifications of the New Zealand inkjet printer market."

A Google search shows identical systems elsewhere. How much engineering do you really think was done here? Unless any of the principals have any previous involvement with the old MELCO, the old Mitsubishi importers, the company name smells like trading on association.

The company 'MELCO Technologies' selling the CISS system in NZ is not related to BDT (formerly Melco), the Mitsubishi distributors, but the name is certainly similar.

I suspect this is indeed a case of trading on association.

778398 2009-10-02 22:29:00 I bought one of these for a Canon Pixma ip4000 at work that we use to print CDs. The kits are kind of mickey mouse, they use bits of plastic and double-sided tape to hold everything in place.

I wasn't able to close the lid, and it won't work with the lid up. I asked about this and was told that the lid wasn't supposed to close, and that I should jam a bit of screwed up paper into the hole where the microswitch is so the printer would work...

The ink quality was crap too, very pale and washed out looking, but they said they would sell me some specialist ink (at twice the price).
I kept asking for a refund but they just kept fobbing me off with dumb excuses. If I'd bought it for myself I'd try the Disputes Tribunal but as it's a business purchase I guess we're stuck with it.

Hello,Ratbert,
Thanks for your info. I bought a Brother DCP6690cw. and want to try the CISS. I wrote they after saw your comments:

I want to print a good colourful photo (reasonable dark and saturated) from your system. Is it OK with B03 or your have better ink for it? How to order?

And I got this reply:

Thank you for your email.

This model CISS is very popular and we have not had any complaints about poor print quality from our inks.

778400 2009-10-03 06:20:00 Are you in NZ? Cicero (40)
778401 2009-10-06 20:52:00 So what is the verdict on that printing system ?
I agree with many on here.
If you do a lot of printing get a b&w laser (very cheap now)and an inkjet for your colour prints.
In actual fact getting prints at a photo shop / The Warehouse is better as the paper quality is good.
I find the color refills I get at Cartridge world work great and are very cost effective. But then I am not super critical.
