776948 2009-05-26 11:41:00 I have a hard time blaming law enforcement agencies for the general mess we find ourselves in.

Most people are generally law abiding but I do question some silly laws that are just plain not enforceable.

People who want to can get around the spirit of the law by using the letter of the law.

Parenting skills need to be taught from an early age along with cooking skills in my opinion. Respect for others should also be taught.

Take the other thread where some people would take the money and run.
The people involved know it is wrong but they are doing it anyway.

The law should be black and white but what we have is a number of shades of grey.

If we take the Ten Commandments for example where we are advised that killing another person is a sin. Provocation does not come into it.

But there again a young person may be sent off to war where he/she has to pull the trigger and end the life of another person.

Why not invite the Taliban over and crush more than the cars . . . ah probably ACT policy by now .

That's right - I used to hoon around in a Mark III Zephyr, couldn't do anyone any harm in one of those, they only went about 180 K if I remember correctly.

776953 2009-05-26 12:13:00 I can't wait till this law comes in to stop cruising.

I'll ring up every night and complain about the ****ing bus driver cruising in circles.

776954 2009-05-26 12:15:00 You were better than me. I use to hoon around in a slightly modified 850cc Morris Mini. It could do 140k flat out down a hill.
:)

The proposed legislation only provides the ability for city councils to impose bylaws preventing cruising. The law itself doesn't make it illegal, unless the city councils say so.

Therefore, you will have quite a long wait until the bureaucracy of local government decides to do anything (if it does).

776956 2009-05-26 19:33:00 Gee that would have worked against Hitler.Godwin's law (en.wikipedia.org):
Godwin's Law (also known as Godwin's Rule of Nazi Analogies)[1] is an informal adage created by Mike Godwin in 1990. The adage states: "As a Usenet discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1."

Godwin's Law applies especially to inappropriate, inordinate, or hyperbolic comparisons of other situations (or one's opponent) with Hitler or Nazis or their actions.

You can tell when a USENET discussion is getting old when one of the participants drags out Hitler and the Nazis.

Yes. It's harder to throw a brick through a second story window anyway. :p

Exactly my thoughts.
