867437 2010-03-15 23:44:00 I know that some but not all motherboards have markings on them.

Some cases have connectors that just say PWR with no indication as to polarity.

867438 2010-03-15 23:44:00 Talking about 50 percent chance of getting it right.

Reminds me of those action movies where they guy has to cut the wires on a nuclear bomb ! There is always a 50% chance of getting it right ! he he.

867439 2010-03-15 23:45:00  at least when you get these wrong there aren't any worrying consequences, just no light. :p wratterus (105)
867440 2010-03-15 23:47:00 Well, if it wont light up the 1st time, turn it around then it will. It doesnt matter which way for PWR, or reset, as someone has already said, there's no polarity. This is only for the LED's. If the power only worked one way, then I'll probably be dead by now Speedy Gonzales (78)

Unlike USB connections that may give cause for concern.

867443 2010-03-15 23:59:00 The original question: "I was just wondering if ... it matters which way round you put them onto the the pins"

Obviously Digby knows onto which pairs of pins to put each plug already, and wants clarification as to if the orientation is critical.

And as has already been said: LEDs yes, Switches no

The manual and\or board will tell you which way around the LED needs to go. And the color coding of the LED wires is usually: color = positive, white\black = negative.

As the others say, it doesn't matter. If the LED doesn't work, just switch it around...

867445 2010-03-16 00:32:00 But "usually" is not always is it?

Everything I have seen uses the method I described.

However, I am sure there are some out there which do not
