780290 2009-06-07 07:38:00 Hi, someone is looking at cordless phones.

What is this DECT thing? With regards to the Ghz thing, does 2.4 conflict with wifi? What about the N series wifi and the newer ones?

Then there is 5.8 right?

Thanks.

Yes the 2.4GHz phones can get interference from Wireless A/B/G and N if its operating on 2.4GHz.

Wireless N (www.cisco.com utions_Brochure.html) runs on 5GHz, but if you want it to be backwards compatible with A, B or G products you will need to run it on 2.4GHz also.

You can also get 5.8GHz phones which is what we're running at my place with no real interference.

780292 2009-06-07 12:30:00 Stormdragon: 802.11a is 5GHz, not 2.4GHz. 802.11b/g are 2.4GHz. 802.11n can operate at 5GHz, 2.4GHz, or both at once.

Nomad: Yes 2.4GHz cordless phones can interfere with 2.4GHz wifi, but it depends on the type of phone and which channels are in use - they will often coexist quite happily.

Yup, because it hops around a set of frequencies around the 2.4 GHz range every second, so you might not get an interference at all.

Bluetooth does more damage to a WiFi signal, I say.
