If all you need is simple stuff, then just sign up for a web host, then install a CMS such as Drupal or Joomla on it. Really simple for beginners, adding pages and menus etc is easy. And lots of themes, plugins and resources for them on the web. If you need any help installing or using Joomla just ask.

779082 2009-06-02 09:03:00 Telling the world that you're about to start an under-the-table business is not the brightest idea, particularly since you've identified where you work, and your position at that company . It would be very easy for the IRD to track down who you are based on the information you have provided .

I would recommend you take a serious look at your business plan, in terms of the issues of liability . Another person who posted on this forum about doing a similar thing had their idea shot down by a number of members, as they hadn't considered the implications of providing warranty support, liability for mistakes, and so on . As you acknowledge that you're not not overly experienced in industry, what would happen if you made a mistake while doing a cleanup of someone's computer, and cause irreparable damage to their system - i . e . loss of data, and so on?

In terms creating websites, try a simple (free) hosted solution using existing templates, rather than trying to get someone to build you one . There are a number of providers (like http://www . weebly . com/ for example) which let you create very basic websites, very quickly . Google have their "Google Pages" product, and Microsoft have one as part of Popfly .

Don't take this the wrong way, but I would suggest that you shelve this idea for a couple of years, and look at it again later . There are plenty of people running around claiming to be computer technicians, and often cause more harm than good to people's machines .

779083 2009-06-02 09:04:00 Thanks blam, nice to see your still around, As for the joomla I dont think so(no offence) around the time I was last around here i was doing a bit of "Penetration research/testing" and joomla seems to have alot of problems. although if you can prove otherwise i'd be happy to do so.

As for the ird, I dont have to register unless i earn 40k + per year, it all comes under income tax.

EDIT: For all computers I can provide 1year RTB warrantys, as for all other liability's I coming up with a solution soon in the form of a legal document, - P.S As for loss of data I don't believe it should be too much of a problem as i will make images of all the HDD's i fix(although they will be deleted after 1 month unless the customer pays for a permanent image). as for any damage to the hardware(I doubt it will happen) but if it does I'm sure I can come up with a remedy

Err... you don't have to register for GST if your income is under $40k (that threshold has changed though - but I don't recall what it was). You still have to fill out an IR3 tax return and pay the tax you owe. If you were planning on doing this all along, then it isn't considered "under the table".

779085 2009-06-02 09:11:00 I wasnt planing on filling out an IR3 tax return unless my business becomes substantial - I do however realise how much of an idiot comment that was :/ ... You learn new things everyday. ZapperBoy10647 (11988)

My limited schooling in Maths tells me that if you are working 100 hours per week never mind the plus it would allow 68 hours for travel, eating, sleeping, filling out forms, posting on various forums, filling in forms that the Govt and Councils will insist that you do and various other things that life will throw at you over time.

779087 2009-06-02 10:02:00 Yeah, im working 100 hour weeks, barely get paid for 12 of that if lucky, so why shouldnt I try and do a little bit of business for myself?!? I need to get ahead somehow and its obvious this internet cafe aint paying, i gain experience but theres not much to be learnt as there not many repairs through here.

Is it just be or is everyone being nonsupportive or cynical?!?

I may be cynical but I am aware of reality as are others on this forum.

You tell us that you manage an Internet Cafe and you work at McDonalds and work 100 hours but you only get paid for 12 hours?

Getting ahead is good if you can do it.

There are minimum wages. 100 hours per week at the minimum rate adds up to around $1000. If you are working 100 hours and getting paid for 12 then there is something wrong with your two employers.
