2009-06-05 01:16:00 | here in Pukengahu (where's that:stare:), we've been down to -3 at 8am, but generally followed by a nice day. Lowest I recorded was -7 in 2001, we had hoar frost that winter which didn't help the new trees I'd planted, at all. Someone said this'll be the coldest winter since the 1930's and a farm consultant told me the other day, that it's due to lack of solar activity. He has records going back many years, which at face value, tend to point to this being the case, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

2009-06-05 01:32:00 | This morning my car was covered by a thin layer of ice. First time I've ever seen ice on a car in my 9 years living in Auckland! | qazwsxokmijn (102) | |
2009-06-05 01:33:00 | Blardy cold here this morning service truck wouldn't start had to spray ether down intake and jump start from boat battery. My wife has had fire going during the day and we are chewing through the firewood compared to other years, its just clouded over and not so cold now. Seems a bit severe for first few days of winter some years we can go through whole winter without a killer frost. I am now a Global warming skeptic. You can get frosts in Brissy.

2009-06-05 01:39:00 | Funny, I lived in Brisbane for a number of years, Never saw a frost as far as I can remember. The coldest day we had was 8 degrees and the pussy Aussies refused to work, wanted the day called off so they could go home. And it was always good fun to drive up to Noosa in the middle of winter and go for a swim, The water would have a few kiwis in it and the Aussies would be rugged up like a southland farmer.

2009-06-05 01:42:00 | I thought every Winter was the coldest Winter since whenever! ;) Even though I grew up very close to the Southern Alps and we couldn't wait until the puddles froze enough so we could skate on our way to school (oh to be a kid again), it was nowhere near as cold as some areas. I can remember coming back from UK and telling an ex resident from the Cotswalds how beautiful it was. He replied in somewhat less polite terms than this; "You haven't been there when it is covered in six feet of snow"

We really torture ourselves by living in the best town in the world. We don't want to many outsiders finding about it though, as we are already being swamped by retired Aucklanders, Poms and Springboks :p Ken |
