779555 2009-06-04 11:27:00 With Telecom and not planning on moving to XT/getting a new phone anytime soon. Don't see the point. My phone is a beast (sanyo 7400) and I'm not getting rid of it.

Not sure the network (gsm, cdma? no idea?) I'm on and don't really care either. However I heard from someone today by the end of the year they plan to shut down the current network Telecom uses (or used rather) and force everyone to move to XT. Is this true?

Obviously I'm not really up with the network stuff, but Vodafone is useless for me and the new Telecom phones are no where near as awesome as mine.

779556 2009-06-04 11:31:00 AFAIK the phones for XT are 3G+ so they support more than just 850Mhz. Therefore if they support other freq one can roam overseas as they say they can do it in many countries, you too should be able to get simcards overseas and use them.

For myself I am still using my Nokia 6230 :D I only phone and text. Hence I have not got a newer phone, plus the phones have gotten larger. If I am careful $20 could last me a year :D I am still with Voda and see no reason to change. Althou from a price point for many, if you use mobile cell internet, Voda says pay $10 more and get double the data ....

$20 lasts a whole year:horrified

No, they are keeping the CDMA network for several years (5 IIRC).

Haha the term WCDMA confused me too. I assumed at first that it was like 3G CDMA, ie a new version of CDMA. But no, it's really 3G GSM (right?).

So when you're used to comparing CDMA / GSM it gets tricky.

779562 2009-06-05 01:39:00 The big question I want answered is it cheaper for a business plan than Vodafone.
I am interested in telekoms prepay mobile internet but it sucks, if you dont use the thing they deduct 10 smackeroos per month that cant be legal can it?

Part of the confusion stems from shortening CDMA2000 to just "CDMA". As you now seem to be aware, CDMA2000 and WCDMA are different, incompatible, technologies.

Telecom's WCDMA network has nothing to do with GSM.

Telecom prepaid data is charged like the texting plan. If you sign up for $6/20 MB then you're charged $1/MB for the first 6 MB (ie. up to the $6 mark) then the remaining 14 MB are free. If you exceed 20 MB then excess usage is 50c/MB.
