Thanks for the support.

Don't get me wrong - I think it's fantastic that you're working so hard to try and get ahead. It would be great if more people had the positive, and highly motivated attitude to succeed that you have.

But - the comments from people like me are intended to try and stop you from getting yourself into a sticky situation (with the taxman, for example).

I was in the same boat with my web design business, at first it was hard to justify paying tax when i might only make $200 every now and then. But once things pick up its alot easier to say by by to your earned money

Good luck Zapper

I think half the people on here are against it cos they dont want the competition

I don't know about that, I can't see one person providing enough competition to concern anyone, I think it's great. Anyone who's worried about that probably has some problems.

However the right preperation and precautions do need to be taken before starting on this type of thing, and it's good to see the OP asking questions about it before going out on a limb.

I think half the people on here are
against it because they see the results of cowboys in the industry that purport to know what they're doing. I'm sure pctek, Wainuitech, Wratterus, CyaBro etc etc could all scare us silly with stories of PC's that had supposedly been 'fixed' by people in the know, who then disappeared without a trace when things went wrong.

I'm not suggesting Zapper is a cowboy, or will try to rip people off, but, like others, just think he needs to know what he's getting into. Running a business (esp. in the current climate) is never easy.

Give it a crack Zapper; and all the very best. My advice, which I'd give to anyone setting up a small business, is get some good working relationships going with an accountant, bank manager, and lawyer.

He's 15, he hasn't a clue whats required in a business, he intends to give 1 year warranties .
I'd say it's off to a bad start already .

779121 2009-06-03 00:32:00 Ive heard that you now need ot get a license to be able to build and sell computers commercially. is this statement correct?

You are absolutely correct... and I'm the only one that you can buy one from. That will be $1000 thanks.

779122 2009-06-03 00:47:00 there was some talk a while back to make computer repairers hold an electrical appliance licence. technically being an electrical appliance you need one, however no one ever bothers. it would be a huge amount of paper work for nothing. tweak'e (69)

ohhh Yeah !!! ---got some butte stories, one just recently to.

I was simply asking where it was heard or written ( and thats been answered already) - Nothing more nothing less - just curious.

Personally I'm registered with MS as a qualified System Builder.

But the comments made by others stands true -- If a person is going to do this, you need to find out all the facts and things you have to do -- better to keep out of trouble and ask, than find out later and will end up costing you $$$$$$$ -- IRD are good if you simply ask.

You don't 'justify' paying tax, Sam. It's a legal requirement that you pay tax on income earned.

I know what you're saying, but the IRD will come down very hard on anyone who doesn't declare income (if they catch them), however little that income might be, and once you're in their sights, they will dig and dig, to see what else they can find - I imagine it's not a pleasant experience.
