869887 2010-03-25 07:29:00 I got this Thomson TG585 modem free from Telecom so I could get ADSL2+
According to Telecom's website I should be able to get ADSL2+
My street address is OK
My Plan is OK
The Thomson TG585 is ADSL2+ compatible.
When I tried to use it it was slower than Dial up!
They sent me a replacement after spending over an hour on the phone one night with support.
The replacement is also slower than Dial Up.
The Nokia M1122 that I have had for many years works beautifully still, but is not ADSL2+ compatible. It gives me 832 upstream and 7616kbits/s downstream. It has been up for the last 35 days without any problem.
But when I switch to the Thomson it is useless.
I do not use filters as I had a technician come to the house many years ago and install a separate ADSL line (split the line?)
Any suggestions?

869888 2010-03-25 07:49:00 Nobody can diagnose this for you from a distance I would suggest. If two fail, one would need to look at your line/port. Only Telecom can do this effectively. It looks like more than a helpdesk from whoknowswhere is called for. linw (53)
869889 2010-03-25 07:52:00 What I would suggest you do is look in to the sync speed of the Thomson TG585 in the router status page, post back with what speeds it's sync'ing at.

Then, go to speedtest.net and post the results here
Then, go to pingtest.net and post the pingtest results here.

Lastly, see here: chillingsilence.wordpress.com

Edit: BTW - Yes it's quite possible to diagnose remotely, just gotta ask the right questions and get the right answers ;)

869890 2010-03-25 09:06:00 Before I disconnect the Nokia M1122 and connect the Thomson TG585 I ran speedtest and pingtest with the Nokia.

Speedtest results: Ping 86ms. Download speed 6.48Mbps. Upload speed 0.63Mbps

Pingtest results: Packet loss 0% Ping 44ms Jitter 0% Grade A (Excellent)

Where do I find the Router Status Page in the Thomson TG585 interface?

869892 2010-03-25 09:53:00 Browse to the modem's ip address - probably 192.168.1.254 decibel (11645)
869893 2010-03-25 09:55:00 With the Thomson TG585 connected

Speedtest: Ping 63ms Download 0.93Mbps Upload 0.69 Mbps

Pingtest: Packet loss 0% Ping varied from 35 to 55ms

Jitter varied from 2ms to 44ms

Sometimes Grade A Sometimes Grade B

Yes I did that but could not find anything about Rouster status or sync speed

869895 2010-03-25 10:14:00 Unfortunately I don't have any of those handy to check with, I'm not a big fan of them.

Do you use the Wireless? I'm presuming not, since the Nokia isn't a wireless modem?

With that in mind, I would strongly suggest you try getting something such as the Linksys AM300 or the Draytek DV120, and seeing if either of those have better results?

Something else for you to try: See if you can force the TG585 in to ADSL1 mode? That said, the WebGUI on those is *the* worst I've ever seen for a router, so I wouldn't worry if you can't decipher how to.

Click on Broadband Connection and DSL connection shows sync speed. Mine shows 16,300 down so is adsl2+.
