781697 2009-06-12 02:36:00 Well im just posting wanting to know some of the questions that the recruitment office didnt really answer me properly..

I have always wanted to join army, really ever since i was like 12. then go on to the police force after a while of service.

one true problem is i have been with my partner since i was like 15... me and my parnter are much older now im almost 20 and shes almost 21, and i have been starting to think about signing up.

So how is the first few years in the army with a partner??? i know i cant see her while im at my 16-week All Arms Recruit Course but after that and when i get sent to Linton Military Camp can we live in our own place off base/marriage quaters??? And being in the army are you free to go after the day is over and weekends or do i consistently have to stay on base?? Well the recruitment office said its basically the same as having a job... if you want just pm me so i can ask more questions if needed :).

cheers guys

781698 2009-06-12 02:40:00 Once you've started working you just do a normal day's work and you can go back to wherever you're living after you've been to the pub. roddy_boy (4115)
781699 2009-06-12 02:45:00 sounds good then cause my partner also wants to go back to uni i believe, and palmy is where most the animal stuff is done :) woffalofagus (14998)
781700 2009-06-12 02:51:00 Don't think I want to know too much more about you and your partner doing "animal stuff" tbh.

What are you joining as?

781702 2009-06-12 04:52:00 if your going armed forces than get an apprenticeship. at least you will get a trade out of it. i can't imagen there is a lot of work for a rifleman once hes out of the army. mayby mercanary or bodyguard work. most of that will be overseas. unless of course your really keen for some action which means you really need to get into the SAS. tweak'e (69)
781703 2009-06-12 05:10:00 yea well was thinking of that. but then all i really want to do after army is go for police and armed defenders squad... woffalofagus (14998)

Apprenticeships are usually aligned to civilian trades. Riflemen are not much use in Civvy St. MP would be a good choice especially in light of your ambition re joining the Police.

As said in earlier post. It is like a normal job most of the time.
Married quarters are nearby and Very very cheap. You will regularly need to work overnight on duties like Camp security.
Linton is also only a few minutes from Massey Uni so very handy.

.

well thats what i thought . I think you have to wait 12+ months befor you can applie for MP, so thats the main reason i dont want to get stuck in an apprenticeship . Should really go in again and ask what would be the best position to start then move on to MP .

Yep going in again is a good idea. Also write down a list of other questions you have.
