781121 2009-06-10 05:47:00 Is it just me or do other people get really annoyed at people who hate computers because they lost 2 hours of work because the stupid thing crashed and I hadn't saved? I think there is a phrase for that sort of error, but I can't remember it. sammo450 (13626)
781122 2009-06-10 05:48:00 Frustratedyes, but not angry. Crank up that autosave time in Word, people! :D

Would it be a PEBCAK error?

781123 2009-06-10 06:26:00 Would it be a PEBCAK errorThats the cause of at least 50% of the errors :D wainuitech (129)
781124 2009-06-10 06:33:00 And about 50-75% of the remaining errors (after PEBKAC) are caused by the ID 10 T problem... johcar (6283)

Definition: IT Hell. Aka "Helldesk", where good I.T techs go to die. An IT purgatory spent sat in a call center listening to people tell you how the coffee holder snapped off their PC (mug in the dvdrom tray), the foot pedal doesn't work (stomping on the mouse), and their "computer" won't turn on (powering the monitor on and off doesn't do much).
This is a place that users call with a problem (usually simple) and the "trained" (we hope so anyways) IT person on the phone will go through the mind numbing process of walking the caller through fixing the problem (including PEBKAC's and 1D 10T errors). These calls usually come from people that have called enough times for both parties to be on a first name bases. On occasion the poor tech will get a call that is of an interesting problem (that is an actual problem that most intelligent people can not fix without technical knowledge), that actually requires real problem solving and is the highlight of there day/week/month/year.

Brief respite is taken by the techs through the usage of obscure terms, technical jargon, and forcing customers to reinstall windows needlessly destroying the Phd thesis they have been working on for the past 5 years.

PEBKAC
Definition: An acronym used by IT professionals to describe computer problems related to user errors. Stands for: Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair.

Mostly I get annoyed at the halfwits who after you spend months telling them something they ignore you totally and do something stupid instead.
Or proceed to tell you how the neighbours cousins 10 year old son said xxxxxx and obviously you are completely wrong.

781126 2009-06-10 07:54:00 Seems appropriate to plug techtales.com. If you can forgive the crappy intro page (with audio) and constant use of Comic Sans, it's a great site! ubergeek85 (131)
781127 2009-06-10 08:39:00 Theres one very important skill that always seems to be missing from IT support requirements -- :"MUST have a sense of Humor"

And blimey - you need it some times :p

They have been accused of that quite often. ;)
