2009-06-09 09:13:00 | Just moved into a new apartment with the missus, and we don't really have any use at all for a landline. Is is possible to have broad band without one? If so, which ISPs do it? On another note - which ISP is everyone with? Are they good?

2009-06-09 09:17:00 | You can have bb without a voice service, but short answer is no, you need a land line. | pine-o-cleen (2955) | |
2009-06-09 09:18:00 | You could get naked DSL. But then you'll have to get a modem which supports VOIP I think. Unless you get wireless, which would probably be worse | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |

2009-06-09 09:53:00 | In Tauranga you can get wireless broadband from enternet on line if you have line of site to one of their many repeaters around the BOP, no phone line needed at all. My daughter has it, works well, cheaper than telecom. | Andrew B (867) | |
2009-06-09 10:04:00 | A landline line is still required for naked DSL As Safari mentioned, you need a landline physical connection to be there in your flat but it doesnt have to be connected to any phone services. If you are asking if you can get BB without a phone service than yes.. its called Naked DSL. Hope this helps.

2009-06-09 10:21:00 | I looked at this before when I thought about city apartment lving. I don't use much of the phone. The ONLY way is Woosh which is wireless, the speed might be okay with you if you are not a demadning user. I am pretty happy with a 256k connection ADSL in the suburbs cos all I do is surf and email. The cheapest naked ADSL IMO is Xnet unless that has changed, but naked ADSL (with broadband) by Xnet is only around $20 cheaper than a full landline setup with ADSL broadband. They bill you for the phoneline and if you want you can use it for VOIP which is already included. I think with Xnet you can make free local calls etc .. competitive rates toll calling via VOIP which they will bill you...... In otherwords if your BB is $40 a month you will not just pay $40 a month. You are likely to pay $60 a month even if you don't use VOIP at all. Its included regardless.

2009-06-09 10:23:00 | The only way is cable internet which requires a cable modem (plus Woosh wireless). Telstraclear provides their mid and upper plans to be BB only and no VOIP fee and no phoneline fee. That is IF you can get access to their Saturn (?) network. So if BB cost $50 a month all you pay is $50 a month. NO VOIP, No phone. Thou if you wanna Skype you can do that within your 20GB or whatever is provided in your BB pack. | Nomad (952) | |

Are they good? you can use naked adsl from Orcon (no landline required which you can plug your modem straight into the telephone line). Orcon offers $79.95 for 15Gb broadband (cheapest i've seen so far) that no contract and a complimentary of movies pass 2 for 1 price valid for a year (i love this card) |
