| 781844 | 2009-06-13 06:15:00 | Reminded me of Colgate, where the company managed to eek out extra revenue by increasing the nozzle size of their toothpaste products. Unbeknown to the consumers, same amount of force is still applied to squeeze out the toothpaste. The following year the company reported an increase of 10% in revenue. Cheers :) |

| 781845 | 2009-06-13 06:19:00 | I convinced Mrs Misty that we should buy a front-loader and as long as I live she will never let me forget !!! The only problem she finds is that you cannot open ours after it has started and she invariably finds a pair of socks, or something, after it has started. I tend to view this as a minor thing.......but I am wrong. Re the shrink in size she has no problem (and neither does Consumer Mag). Believe me -- I would know if there was a problem ! :horrified :horrified Misty :xmouth: |

Essentially is'nt this a thing about being observant in the moment. Being aware. I have a problem in not using too much shampoo - my needs for volume of shampoo are infinitely less than Liz Hurley or Catherine Zeta Jones. I know this - but still use too much. Something to do with the dispenser. :groan: All to do with Caveat Emptor - let the buyer beware. Much as we might like it sometimes, things don't stay the same ! :D Misty (philosopher !) ;) |

| 781848 | 2009-06-14 05:10:00 | Considering all the above, Questions I have to ask: 1. Is our National Government doing anything about it? Ans: NO 2. Is our opposition, Labour Party doing anything about it? Ans: NO 3. Is the Consumers' Institute doing anything about it: Ans: NO 4. Is the people of NZ doing anything about it (other than making some very gentle noises)? Ans: NO Conclusion: This is New Zealand. This is the way it is, this is our way of life. lol The consumer mag is a private company now, so they are also all about making money, and won't help you unless you subscribe to their mag. I just read it at the library, and while there are some good articles and I enjoy the letters, their reviews are pretty poor imho. Fair Go has already done a story about the washing powder, and becuase it is actually cheaper to buy a small box than the equivalent largebox, due to specials and promos, they let them off pretty lightly. However I expect the price to go up, when people have got used to the new size. Consumer backlash does work, it worked with majority Ozzie owned Contact energy, where they lost a lot of customers. The best thing a consumer can do is not buy the product, and to tell friends to do the same thing. One product I find interesting, is Ribena. This is still being sold and it appears that people have now forgotten about the bad press they have had,and are back to buying it again. Time heals all wounds. |

AFAIK they are still a non profit Incorporated Society, the only recent change is magazine sales in bookstores and product endorsement . If you aren't a member, you're not paying them to help you . |

| 781850 | 2009-06-14 10:43:00 | Consumer NZ is an independent, non-profit organisation established in 1959 with the sole aim of getting New Zealand consumers a fairer deal. What we do Our work covers a wide range of activities relating to consumer protection and information. This includes: comparative tests and surveys of consumer goods and services; research into and advice on financial, food, health, safety, welfare and environmental matters; representation at parliamentary committees and public enquiries; an interest in consumer education and complaints advisory work. Testing We commission independent laboratories to carry out our product tests. Our membership of Consumers International means we benefit from an exchange of information with consumer organisations around the world. When we say "independent" we mean it We never accept free goods for testing, nor do we accept donations or sponsorship. Our magazines are completely independent and have no ties with any commercial firm or organisation. How we're financed Our money comes from the sale of our publications and subscriptions to Consumer magazine and Consumer.org.nz. We do not accept advertising in anything we publish to protect the strict impartiality of our reporting. Membership When you subscribe to Consumer magazine or Consumer.org.nz you become a member of Consumer NZ (unless you request otherwise) and have the right to nominate and vote for Board members. You can download a copy of our Rules of Incorporation (Word document, 118KB). Endorsement programme The Consumer Recommends endorsement programme allows manufacturers, distributors and service providers to use the Consumer Recommends brandmark in advertising and promotional activities for those products and services which have been awarded Consumer Recommends status, subject to meeting licence conditions. Consumer Recommends status is awarded to products and services which have satisfied specific criteria based on the results of rigorous comparative tests and analysis. Find out more with our endorsement programme FAQs. The Board Consumer NZ is governed by an elected board of seven members who hold office for three years. The current chair is Mark Bedford. The deputy chair is Jo Bransgrove. Find out more about our Board. Consumer Magazine Consumer magazine has been New Zealand's trusted source of consumer advice and information for over 40 years. If you aren't a member, you're not paying them to help you. What I meant to say was that they are no longer government supported. Instead NZers are supposed to use the Citizens Advice Bureau. I didn't realise that they now did product endorsement, as I thought they were against this. |

| 781852 | 2009-06-14 19:59:00 | Their product tests are done independently SWMBO was working up till earlier this year for the company that does most of the tests and I did some building work for them too. | gary67 (56) | ||

Consumer often collaborates with other consumer magazines like the Australian "Choice" when getting tests done. They share data but do their own write up. The usual mistake is trying to write about differences that don't really exist given the closeness of results and small sample size. |
