780896 2009-06-11 00:26:00 At this minute I have contractors installing a landline to the sleepout where I stay (a trench has to be dug and cabling installed). It'll be entirely seperate from the main house phoneline.

This will give me a phone connection plus adsl. It's costing me a grand to have it installed , but it's worth it so I can be independent of the main house. I'll be using Telstraclear for my communications once it's all up and running. I've used them for my broadband for the last year and I'm happy with their prices and service.

780897 2009-06-11 03:44:00 I've been using Xnet Fusion naked DSL for a bit over a year now. Works great, and I'm happy with the price too. It is nice to have all the features that Telecom offer (at a price) included free, plus a few extra. (For me the fact that I have no contact whatsoever with Telecom is a huge bonus, YMMV) ;) R2x1 (4628)
780898 2009-06-11 04:22:00 Just moved into a new apartment with the missus, and we don't really have any use at all for a landline. Is is possible to have broad band without one? If so, which ISPs do it?

On another note - which ISP is everyone with? Are they good?

If you are in a Telstra Cable area, I think you can get just the cable interent without any other services.

We have a phone line connected to the house - but don't have an account - ie no phone number. So I guess naked DSL is what I'm after - we want around 15gb, and live in Rotorua. So who is the best to go with? Or is it just as economical to get a phone number and have broadband on top of that?

cheers for the replies so far :)

Basically Orcon does Naked ADSL but that cost $15 a month for it on top of your internet fees. Ie., Naked ADSL is not the same price as BB by itself. Xnet charges $20. Approx that is.

Woosh or Telstraclear on cable are the only ones that are truly naked BB. Ie., if BB is $50 all you pay is $50.

780900 2009-06-11 06:56:00 I guess a phoneline cost around $40 doesn't it. Naked BB usually cost around $15 or $20 a month. Then you add the BB fees on top. That is ADSL. Nomad (952)
780901 2009-06-14 09:47:00 Have you tried googling 'wireless broadband in rotorua' ? If you have, you may have found compass communications with this on their site :

Rotorua
Areas covered: Rotorua, Ngongotaha, Hamurara, Mourea, Whangamanno, Te Nago .

Line of sight required: The large BCL mast on the hill east of Rotorua . You must be able to see either the top of the building (if in Rotorua) or the mast (remaining area) .

Maybe they can help you .
