869593 2010-03-24 01:56:00 My brother wises to know if user accounts in Xp can control hardware.
God only knows why, but he has 3 sound cards in his machine.
He wants to know if he can set up different accounts to control different cards.
He wants it so he can have 1 account running in the background, that controls one sound card. And another account that he can play games on, that controls either of the other 2.
His problem at the moment, is that when he starts a game, the directx takes over, and maps all sound cards, and mutes the one that all his sounds are coming from.

Is there a way he can set up multiple accounts that only uses a specific card?

869594 2010-03-24 02:00:00 Hi, there are hardware profiles where you can disable devices, however you cannot run multiple sounds cards at the same time IIRC.

Only 1 user can be logged onto XP pro at any one time.

869595 2010-03-24 02:02:00 hmmm, but you can switch users without logging out of a specific account Camiron (7092)
869596 2010-03-24 02:04:00 Isnt that the point of switching users? You log out someone logs in? Speedy Gonzales (78)
869597 2010-03-24 02:09:00 yea, but the account is still active isn't it?
and couldn't it control one of the sound cards?

with the new user controlling either of the other cards?

No, the account is not still active!...suspended! AFAIK..only 2003 and 2008 have terminal services for multiple access!

869600 2010-03-24 02:46:00 AFAIK, you can run several sound apps at once,ie: game and listen to music, I have done that for ages, there is no need for separate sound cards! SolMiester (139)
