784030 2009-06-20 09:58:00 In an earlier thread I described the problem I was experiencing with a woodburner/wetback combo - roaring fire and lots of hot water.
I've decided to bite the bullet and utilise both the heat directly from the stove and the wetback output.
The stove is in my kitchen, next door to my sitting room and I'm proposing to run a ducting system to use the warm air that collects at the ceiling level in the kitchen (the stud height is 3.1m in both rooms) and redirect it into my sitting room.
If I have a radiator at the rear of the sitting room (a very short run from the wetback) will I get a better overall heating result if the ducted warm air goes to the front of the sitting room where the largest windows are?
A secondary question - there's a unused trapdoor in the ceiling at the front of the kitchen ceiling, will the warm air be much cooler there than directly over the wetback? Its an obvious place to locate the ducting if I'm going to redirect the heat to the front of the adjacent room.

784031 2009-06-20 22:23:00 Don't know if you've been to the UK but central heating radiators are almost always under windows the idea being that you get cold air dumping down from the window so the radiator combats this. I think the heat would be more concentrated over the fire one way to find out is get on a chair or ladder since you have high ceilings with a thermometer and check the heat difference around the room gary67 (56)
784032 2009-06-21 01:49:00 I've checked the temp. by taping a thermometer to a long piece of wood and leaving it for 10/15 mins in both places. There's very little difference, maybe 1 or 2 degrees Cent.
Thanks for reminding me about rads. under windows but I'm hoping the same effect will be got from circulating the warm air down in front of the windows.

i know some people with similar setup. basically fans needs to running all day and pump a lot of air through to make any difference.

better of just running a radiator off the wetback.

784034 2009-06-21 10:07:00 There's an awful lot of heat sitting in my kitchen below the ceiling c.70 Fah.
I reckon it could be cheaper running a fan to blow that into my sitting room than installing radiators (which have to be pumped).
So Stage 1 (tomorrow I hope) is the warm air venting system.
