783808 2009-06-20 00:35:00 Hey,

Got a customer who is wanting a terminal server type setup for remote users to access.
They don't have a lot of money to spend so a "real" terminal server is probably out of the question.
I found XP Unlimited (license.xpunlimited.com) yesterday but never seen it before.
Anyone here seen or used it before?
Any pros/cons etc?

Thanks.

Hi, havent checked it yet, but quickly thought why not have the remote users login to their normal desktop remotely, just use MAC reservations on DHCP so they always have the same LAN IP.....

Will have a look at this xp unlimited though for sure!

783810 2009-06-20 00:51:00 Looks like a citrix type app to run on top of XP SP2 or any of the server versions..... SolMiester (139)
783811 2009-06-20 01:00:00 Yea it looks like a great ap, if it does what it says it does and works just like a terminal server, at a fraction of the cost.
Just sell them a decent workstation with XP Pro and heaps of RAM and chuck this on it.

The remote users that need the access don't have a local PC to log in to.
It is two clinics that want to be able to access all client data etc in one location.

783812 2009-06-20 01:11:00 Just finished doing a similar thing for a small company, using WHS - all have remote access to the files from any place that has a internet connected PC.

WHS only has 10 individual user accounts, but they have their own personal accounts that allow remote access to the server, along with 3 separate "remote" user accounts if required.

The PC is low in spec, only a basic board, E5200 2 GB RAM, 500GB drive - its only a file server basically.

10 licenses would be plenty but to use the remote desktop in WHS you need to have a physical machine for each user to log in to if they all need to connect at the same time don't you?

783815 2009-06-20 01:39:00 I dont think WHS has mutiple sessions though?....Just logged into a customers WHS one from the Office PC, and another from the workshop PC, both logged in fine with not "booting out" the other log in ( same login) Just going to send Cy a PM to make sure. wainuitech (129)
783816 2009-06-20 01:41:00 What kind of client's do they have? If they were sufficiently grunty, you could set up virtual workstations, so wherever they logged in from, they could access their VM with all their apps/files etc via the LAN?

I'm trialling this at the moment on a small scale and it works fine.

WHS server is based on Server 2003 so probably have two concurrent remote desktop sessions available.
