783332 2009-06-18 08:53:00 Hi All,

I want to cut/drill a 100/120mm dia hole in the outside wall of the house for a stove hood fan.

At the momen all I can think of is a circle of small, tipped drill, holes the chip it out.

Any other ideas? Thanks. PJ

783333 2009-06-18 09:52:00 What about a jig saw with a masonry blade? theother1 (3573)
783334 2009-06-18 10:12:00 Agreed. I once did similar on the laundry wall for a clothes dryer exhaust. Fine grade saw blade, take your time and it makes a really neat job. Make sure that it it right size first time. Going back to slightly enlarge the hole tended to make a ragged edge. Scouse (83)

Would be cheaper than buying one if it's a one-off

That's what Hardies suggest if you haven't a hole saw. How old is this fibro? Pre 1988 it's very likely to contain Asbestos fibre with all the problems that entails.

PS Get Metla to punch a hole in the wall :D

783338 2009-06-20 09:08:00 If there is asbestos in thefirolite, just keep the area of the cut wet KenESmith (6287)
783339 2009-06-20 09:19:00 Thanks for the replies. This project is on hold at the moment. It is very cold here in Wanganui & I am not allowed to work outside, It brings on Angina. PJ Poppa John (284)

783341 2009-06-21 06:22:00 All done. My next door neighbour did the "drill lots of holes thingy" & chiseled it out.He has all his faculties & is stronger than me. Rangehood is now fitted & working. Thanks. PJ Poppa John (284)
