I just bought a Sony 46" Full HD TV (with freeview decoder) 3 months old for $2200, i'll stick with that for a few years yet. Will have to pop into a store and see these things running though, looks impressive.

782440 2009-06-15 05:32:00 Its still LCD, but is only LED backlit. Most manufacturers are now producing them. One problem with them is a haloing effect, due to them only having about 1000 LEDs behind the panel. ONce the technology improves this will get better. robbyp (2751)

Yes, never ever buy just released technology. Bound to have kinks that haven't quite been ironed out yet.

LED TV (http://www.led-tvs.info/) is a term used by Samsung to describe its line of LCD (liquid crystal display) TVsthat use LED backlighting.
LED-backlit LCD TVs do differ from conventional LCD TVs in some important areas:
1- They can produce a very bright image and deep blacks (doesn't work for Edge-LED
2- With Edge-LED lighting they can be extremely slim.
3- They can offer lower power consumption.
4- They can offer a wider colour gamut, especially when RGB-LED backlighting is used.
