783085 2009-06-18 08:05:00 Just hand out qualifications to those who want them, or do what that Immigration Manager did and just say you have got a doctorate. Twelvevolts (5457)
783086 2009-06-18 08:40:00 This issue was similarly raised last year when the Ministry of Education mandates that Universities should practise elitism when it comes to graduate entry.

In my years studying at the University of Auckland, I have come across people studying just for the sake of getting a degree rather than pursuing what they really want to do in life. :(

Because the problem is society is conditioned to think a degree is the only guarantee to a hardworking and productive employee or member of the team.

I'm doing what I'm doing because it's probably one of the few ways I could be recognised by the right people overseas. Plus the fact that university can get me in touch with the right contacts.

783089 2009-06-18 09:28:00 Somebody #22 : Well Said.
I know of so many people who have gone to Uni because they didn't know what they wanted to do with their life. It might be a good idea if everyone before going to Uni did a year out in the wide open world so they had a better idea of where they wanted to go.
As mentioned by someone else the whole education thing starts in the home with plenty of encouragement from the parents.

783090 2009-06-18 10:33:00 I am so ashamed of you! You need to ask such a question?

...

If you think asking a questions like this is a shameful thing, I really, really don't know what's in your brain, or, is there anything at all!:D:D:D

783091 2009-06-18 19:58:00 Is this another form of "RACISM"

+1

And +1 : Somebody #22

Meanwhile have a look at the racial political correctness in the UK (www.timesonline.co.uk).

783092 2009-06-19 00:26:00 This is the biggest BS I have seen in a long time.

Why the **** should maori get a free ride? Racisim, plain and simple. It seems the common PC attitude is 'It's not racist if a maori/PI does it!'.

If this goes ahead I'll organize a referendum against it!

783093 2009-06-19 00:33:00 Pita Sharples is just "flying a kite" - proposing something that he knows hasn't a chance of being acted upon but that is just plausible enough to get a media and a public reaction - thereby gaining publicity for the issue.

Classic politics.

Of course I realised that it was a rhetorical question, but I had to say something anyway as I am sick and tired of the reverse-racism that has been perpetrated in this country for the past five decades that I am aware of .

Things are made so easy for maori to achieve and yet the extra advantages they are able to receive are, in most cases, never taken up .

Think we may be better off ignoring what he said, and asking why he said it, what is he up to?

I believe Sharples is far to clever to believe this would work or that it would ever get off the ground, His agenda is . . . . . ?

Good point!

It does make you wonder . I have thought that as well . Is it just a smoke-screen to cover something else he is doing? If he makes loud enough noises, about anything controversial, the public will be that busy talking about it that they will not notice what he is really up to .
