I've been wondering about this one.Went and did a shields test etc on Gibson's site and Win7 firewall passed all.I don't really want to install Online Armor (pd version) on this pc as it mucks up the grandkids playing games. And so many popups. And yes I've used it for over a year so know most of the settings,I think!
Anyone else agree with Speedy? Am leaving UAC on default.

And agree with wainuitechs list along with

Yup even tho I didnt have to use it. And most things dont affect x64 anyway. Altho, I've gone back to Vista x64 for now. Since some things dont work properly in Win7.

870521 2010-03-28 08:58:00 If you want to tweak / disable services in Vista / XP, or Win7. Like whats on Blackviper's site, use this (www.thewindowsclub.com). At least if you stuff things up, it'll be easier to set the services back to their defaults Speedy Gonzales (78)
870522 2010-03-28 20:16:00 I install my bits which in Win 7 now include 3rd party file explorers seeing as Windows Explorer chooses what or what not to show you.,

I go through services and disable those things I don't want.
I also install Ultimate Windows Tweaker on customers PCs. With instructions and warnings about it's use.

I remove (as much as possible) those bits I don't want and turn off any annoying taskbar things that I don't want to see.

In all a lot of installing my stuff, tweaking to suit me and then, once I'm happy I make and image of C:

870523 2010-03-28 22:02:00 And if you have access denied probs after. Disable UAC. It can cause access denied errors, when trying to update programs (foxit reader, is one of them). Well with 64 bit it does. Dont know about 32 bit Speedy Gonzales (78)
870524 2010-03-28 22:27:00 I'm with Wainui on the search/indexing - love it. Seems a bit criminal to turn it off, it's so good. :p wratterus (105)
