| 870428 | 2010-03-28 02:48:00 | If you brought a USB PCI card, some of them have the A socket on them (internal connection). Thats what Erayd was talking about.Sorry Speedy - that's not what I was talking about at all. I was talking about a cable adaptor that transforms a motherboard USB header into a USB-A socket. ...The Cardreader (www.amazon.com) is designed to connect directly to a USB Header on the motherboard.Aaah - so just to make sure I understand you correctly, you want to connect the cardreader, but you have no remaining free headers on the motherboard to attach it to? If that's the case, the product Somebody linked to is ideal - it's basically an internal powered USB hub that provides both additional internal headers and standard USB-A sockets. Note that whatever solution you use *must* be powered - an unpowered hub won't provide enough juice to drive most cardreaders. |

That's exactly it. Yes, the link in somebody's post looks as though it will fill the bill. Speedy, thanks for that Modder site. I must be getting older - I have no idea what many of the items actually are. Thanks to all who helped. |

| 870430 | 2010-05-05 19:55:00 | I'm in Christchurch trying to buy an internal USB splitter, to mount a Card Reader designed to fit into a spare Optical Drive Bay. The M/B is Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3R ATX LGA1 156 DDR3, and both internal sockets have been used for the four front panel USB sockets. I've rung around and the responses vary from "Don't do it, buy our external USB card reader" to "Why would you want an internal socket?" Nobody has yet said, "Yes, sure, how long would you like the cables to be?" (Answer: at least 12cm.) Anyone in Christchurch know a good place to try? It's going into a friend's computer. He already has an external USB multi-card reader, but it makes good sense for him to have one mounted in the drive bay. And just in case: The motherboard socket is rectangular with two rows of five connectors, one blocked off as a key. The case is Cooler Master Cosmos 1000 ATX Full Tower. -------------------------------------------------------------------- This is what you are looking for www.overclockersclub.com I have same problem as you do, coolmaster cm stacker 6 front usb + card reader 4 motherboard usb headers needed, my motherboard only has 3 so this is what u need www.overclockersclub.com |

The guy who needed it (Jim) had a PCI card tracked down and supplied by Global PC in Tower Junction, Christchurch. (Thanks, Stephen!) I don't know the price or where he got it from because I didn't buy it myself, though I did install it. No extra cable supplied, swapping one of the original cables in the computer got around that. The NZXT one in your link looks much better than his, though. Being able to reposition it in the case seems to be a very good idea. |

| 870434 | 2010-05-06 10:24:00 | Agent_24, I wish that Jim would use an external card. Life would be so much easier. The customer is always right, though. Sigh. zqwerty, yes, that would have done the job. Fortunately it's all done now. Thanks to all for the suggestions. |
