I have more like an aerial like this..

That one is a combined UHF/VHF aerial, so if you are in a good area it should work.

783354 2009-06-18 09:16:00 ... we are never going to have a UHF transmitter here ...

You will, eventually. If they try to turn off analog TV without a local Freeview transmitter, your MP will get a bollocking.

783355 2009-06-18 09:19:00 It's strange because when you let it search for channels none can be found, so the signal must not be strong enough, but it gets tv1 2 and 3 and cv4 perfectly mark1978 (13845)
783356 2009-06-18 09:21:00 Maybe am doing something wrong... mark1978 (13845)

783358 2009-06-18 10:32:00 You should still be able to get DVB-S Freeview from your satellite dish, but it will only be standard-definition.

It's probably worth getting someone in with the right gear to assess signal strength; you can add an amp to the signal chain to increase gain a little.

Aerials are around $90, amps about $70.

783359 2009-06-19 20:58:00 Thanks guys, much appreciated your posts! I have freeview in the bedroom on a decoder, The SKY technician was here about 3 months ago and he said there was a fault with the dish, he put a double lbn on it? (did I say that right?) mark1978 (13845)
783360 2009-06-20 00:37:00 Terrestrial (UHF) Freeview and Satellite Freeview use totally different transmission systems. Your Panasonic TV won't run off the dish without a box in between, and can't pick up UHF because your area is without a decent signal, if the map I linked earlier is still current. :( seltsam (13470)

LNB. Almost. ;)

783362 2009-06-20 01:42:00 The Freeview TV are a bit of a con. They sell them in Masterton but we are never going to have a UHF transmitter here so it is a total waste of money getting them.

Not really a con. In a few years when and if analog TV gets turned off these will be the only TVs that will work without a set top box..
