iPod Touch = $390 for 8GB, $500 for 16GB or $660 for 32GB
Digital Camera = ~$150-400

Depends on if you want 2x devices to carry around or not ;)

Seriously though go find a friends iPod Touch to play with, use it for 5-10 minutes and you'll be hooked .. Since I got my iPhone, I know about 15 people have got either an iPhone or iPod Touch because of it :p

I don't think much of Apple computers - but they have got the whole interface thing with the iPod/iPhone range pretty well worked out.

I remember giving my Touch to a friend's 76 yr old mum who didn't know anything about computers and she got the hang of the Touch very quickly.

I recommend the 16GB ipod touch. The new 3.0 software also adds a lot of nice new features. You now get street view with google maps, which apple they previosuly crippled, and that is a really cool feature. You can also speedup and slow down podcasts, and the scrubbing feature can be adjusted into a fine scrub mode. Spotlight is also nice. I guess the next version may come with a camera, as it would then allow you to shoot videos and post them directly to youtubee, but maybe not, as they need something to get people to buy the iphone.
It is really the apps that you can install, and the range and price of the apps, that makes the ipod a top device. No other device has the range of apps.
