783288 2009-07-14 22:34:00 I saw the original (1951). later than 1951 I might add. Can't remember when though.

Never saw the 2008 model yet. Must go off and rent it if I can.

I never saw the original (didn't know there was one tbh) :blush: but the new one is pretty rubbish.

783289 2009-07-15 01:55:00 Got a new one:

"Well, boys, I reckon this is it — nuclear combat toe to toe with the Rooskies. :"

Movie name and name of actor - NO GOOGLING IT EITHER!
I think,
Dr Stranglelove (or how I stopped worrying and learned to love the Bomb),
Slim Pickens.
(Didnt google it).

You got the right film, but the wrong star.
It was Peter Sellers, as I recall.

Edit: Ooops... well maybe it wasn't the right film..?
(I got carried away by wanting to attribute the correct star to THAT film)

783291 2009-07-15 03:56:00 Nah - it was Slim Pickens.

I got the inspiration from a TV show today as I was lying in my death bed watching old re-runs of Quincy, M.D.

783292 2009-07-15 13:04:00 Cool, loved that movie (sorry about my spelling (Strangelove not Stranglelove :))), yeah Sellers was the Dr with the bad twitch, Pickens was the pilot of the last B52 and rode the bomb out of the plane.
Yeehaaa!

783293 2009-07-15 15:53:00 Sellars had "Evil-Hand Disorder" in which his whole right arm rose to the "Sig Heil!" position all the time. Remember?

Although I do not ascribe to the following etiology, it makes for interesting reading.

Evil Hand Disorder can be caused by many different things. Among them:

* Psychotic breakdown
* Transplant from a serial killer
* Absorbing a twin while in the womb ("Peri-natal Twinsorption Malaise")
* Gypsy Curse or Gypsy Cure; take your pick
* Demonic possession
* Off-label, Chinese-cloned recreational pharmaceuticals
* Science run amok
* Overactive hypothalamus in prenatally-injured motion picture script writers

It is important to note that the specific cause of the evil hand will directly affect the way in which it manifests.

Dr. Strangelove from Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb is a famous example. He was able to help start a nuclear war despite the small setback of having a hand that obeyed his subconscious urges, such as punching himself in the face and giving Nazi salutes. His notoriety is such that the common name for the aforementioned real life brain condition "alien hand syndrome" is "Dr. Strangelove Syndrome".

* Dr. Strangelove's hand is also an example of the Weird Al Effect (tvtropes.org), having been lifted from the Mad Scientist Rotwang in the German Silent film Metropolis (tvtropes.org)

In Futurama (tvtropes.org), Fry swaps hands with the Robot Devil. The Robot Devil's hands attempt to choke Fry, though, but (as he says) that effect "will wear off in a couple of days".

* Or maybe it's Fry's hands that are the evil ones..
Robot Devil: These things are always touching me in places!
Fry: Yeah, they get around!

I hope youse guys appreciate all the research I done did on dis, dis morning. I try to educate - and lacking that, I try to entertain.

I think it's more commonly called alien hand syndrome (en.wikipedia.org).
