| 871884 | 2010-04-02 00:34:00 | My XP based computer shows an error message each time it boots. Message is " Rundll" " Error loading cmicnfg.cpl" "The module could not be found" I have no idea what it means - any help ? |

| 871890 | 2010-04-03 22:55:00 | Thanks for reply. How do I backup the registry ? Two ways: 1 using system restore, this backs up the reg as well as the system files or 2. Export/save the reg. 1> System restore, click start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore - when it opens select create a restore point, and follow through. or 2> click start/run, type in regedit click on file/export, call it something, and export/save the reg to another location. Personally I feel system restore would be better, because if something mucks up and your computer wont boot into windows, its easier to run restore than try and get into regedit to replace the exported file. |

Could I simply put the XP Operating System disk in and reinstall windows, but only the operating system of course, leaving my data intact. The problem appears to be with the c-media Audio driver . This is NOT a default driver in XP - doing a repair install will only repair/replace the drivers / system files in XP . Not getting anywhere fast ! What exactly do you mean by that ??? Do you mean it cant be done (some sort of error) OR you not to sure how to do it ? I mean no disrespect here :)- I have no idea of your skill level - but if you are unsure about following those or any instructions, then I'd suggest you take the PC to someone who does know what they are doing . I have seen MANY times people "fiddle around" when they should have backed out - then it takes more work to repair damage . Mucking a system up is easy ;) - fixing peoples "mistakes" it can be a bloody nightmare - and I do this for a living :nerd: |
