871766 2010-04-01 08:11:00 Its probably cheaper building your own Speedy Gonzales (78)
871767 2010-04-01 09:11:00 Or getting the same thing from a shop for the same price, plus a warranty. fred_fish (15241)
871768 2010-04-01 09:28:00 you get warrenties on the parts anyway , so i cant see that as an issue GameJunkie (72)
871769 2010-04-01 09:33:00 Yes but if you need to make a claim on a warranty - there is often problems or can take ages to sort - if at all.

At least if the parts are from a reputable shop, and not some cowboy making PC's Most of the time the problems with RMA's dont happen.

871770 2010-04-01 10:27:00 Trademe is a rip for computer parts, thats why.

It doesn't matter if you list it for cheap either, some sucker will end up bidding too much, I've been selling 160GB SATA hard drives on trademe for $50 - $60 a pop, I only put them on for $10... considering you can get a brand new 1TB for $130, its rediculous what people pay for second hand drives...

871771 2010-04-01 19:13:00 Thats not a way to tell.
If say Dell suddenly announced a massive decrease in desktop sales I'd believe it but Trademe?

There are too many overpriced systems there and what sort of warranty do you get? Most it's dodgy.

871772 2010-04-01 20:57:00 I was looking at desktop prices last night on TM, and couldn't believe how much they were still charging for aging tech like Core 2 Duo; I understand they want to clear the old stock, but the prices don't seem to have moved on the likes of E8400-based builds for example.

Lower spec systems with E5300's etc are even more bizarre, given how Core i3 is only slightly dearer.
